"Bird Dream II" by Debra Olin

Many cultures have good and bad omens associated with birds.  The birds in Bird Dream refer to a story by Glikl Hamel, an important figure in Yiddish cultural history. This poem about women’s relationships with their children was translated by Michael Wex, written into a poem and put to music by Adrienne Cooper, and made into a theater piece by Jenny Romaine, “The Memoirs of Glikl Hameln”.
