Not One, No Evil Eye

"No Evil Eye" by Debra Olin

Every culture has superstitions surrounding newborns. Babies represent hope for the future and a fear of the unknown. This t-shirt series represents several strategies for fooling the Angel of Death that are prevalent in Yiddish folklore. One is supposed to avoid counting children in a group so as not to draw the attention of the Angel of Death to any one child. If one mentions a positive quality of a certain baby or child, one is supposed to add the incantation "keyn ayn hora" (no evil eye), as a means of deflecting the attention of the Evil Eye from the vulnerable young one.
