Sam Zerin plays Joseph Achron

Joseph Achron

Click the links below to listen to the talented Sam Zerin perform pieces by composer Joseph Achron:

1. Achron's setting for voice and piano of the Yiddish folk-song "In a kleyner shtibele (In a little house of worship)" shows him to be a master of tone painting. [Sam Zerin, piano; Katy Wyner, vocals]

2. "Jumping with Tongue Sticking Out," from Achron's 20-Movement "Children's Suite" for string quartet, clarinet, and piano.  Despite the silly title, the music is based on traditional Torah tropes. [Sam Zerin, piano; Renaudo G. Robinson, violin; Zoë Aqua, violin; Emily Bartell, viola; Nathaniel Friedman, cello; Andrew Kotarba, clarinet]

3. "Love Offering" -- a very personal piece (with no overt Jewish content) -- was written within a year of Achron's marriage and is dedicated to his bride. [Sam Zerin, piano; Renaudo G. Robinson, violin]
