Highlights: recently scanned books

Among the highlights recently scanned for the Digital Yiddish Library are a 1920s pamphlet, translated from the French, on some generally hushed-up human sexual behaviors; a yearbook of the Colegio Israelita de México; and a memorial volume for artists murdered in the Holocaust.

An eclectic mix of titles were recently scanned for inclusion in the Steven Spielberg Digital Yiddish Library -- from children's verse, to the science of birds' nests, to short stories that touch upon labor, psychoanalysis and Greenwich Village bohemians.

We are still scanning books each week for our Digital Yiddish Library. This week's highlights include a book on the history of Jews in Brazil, a collection of children's verse by feminist writer Eda Glasser, and an ethnographic photo-essay on Jewish life in pre-war Vilna.

Among the items scanned in the past few weeks are two gems from the 1930s: Joseph Shapiro's compendium of biographies of Jewish messianic pretenders, published in Cleveland; and a Soviet almanac rich with charts and statistics on the changing nature of Jewish life in the USSR.
