Di froyen: Two Students’ Experiences

A reflection by two Mount Holyoke College students, Naomi Piper-Pell and Olive Benito-Myles, on their time at our Di froyen conference

Published on February 10, 2023.

Naomi Piper-Pell and Olive Benito-Myles, two Mount Holyoke College students from Yiddish Book Center academic director Mindl Cohen's Gender of Yiddish course, attended our November 2022 conference, Di froyen: Celebrating the Women of Yiddish Literature for In geveb: A Journal of Yiddish Studies.

Among reflections about the program, the fellow attendees they met, and the Yiddish Book Center as a whole, Olive writes:

"I felt so safe and welcome in its group of incredibly kind, intelligent, and extremely qualified Yiddishists! I am so excited to learn more about all of the new topics and ideas I was introduced to, and I’m sure that many of the sources I find will be written under names I can recognize from Di Froyen."
