In eynem Online Courses: FAQ

How many students will be in the class?
Intro lessons and alef-beys courses will be capped at about fifteen students. Twelve-week courses will be capped at about ten students.

How can I register?
You can register as a nonmember, or become a Yiddish Book Center member and then register here for a course. 

How do I know which course to sign up for?
You can read more about the course prerequisites and check the course dates and times on our registration page.

How do I know if I’m in the correct language level?
A description of the topics covered in each course is available here. When you register, you will be asked questions about your language background, which we will review to ensure that you are in the right level. Students in the continuing levels should review previous units of In eynem before the course begins. You can also contact us if still have questions about which course level to sign up for.

What’s it like to be in an intensive language course?
Intense! In order to build strong language skills, our courses move at a brisk pace. Consistent attendance and participation in all classes is required, and outside of class, students in the 12-week courses should be prepared to spend two to three hours per week completing homework.

What sort of technology do I need to participate?
Students must have a computer with a webcam and microphone, headphones, Internet access, and proficiency with Zoom. Proficiency with Google Classroom is a plus, but not required. For Zoom help, visit the Zoom FAQ.

Will I have homework?
Yes, students in a 12-week course will be expected to complete approximately 60-90 minutes of homework for each class and submit it via Google Classroom. Those in the alef-beys course are encouraged to practice outside of class between sessions and complete optional homework assignments.

What is Google Classroom? 
Google Classroom is a free classroom management system used in our 12-week courses. Students will use it to connect with their instructor, receive announcements, and submit homework. A Google account or Google email address is required. 

What study materials will I need?
For the alef-beys course, study materials will be provided. For a 12-week course, students will need a copy of In eynem: The New Yiddish Textbook. To purchase the textbook, click here.

Will the classes be recorded?
Classes will be recorded and available to students for the duration of the course.

What is the cancellation policy?
We are unable to provide refunds for the alef-beys course once registered. For a 12-week course, cancellations by September 9 will be refunded, minus a $30 administration fee. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide refunds for cancellations after September 9.

Will there be other classes offered in the future?
