Ver Vet Blaybn? Heads to San Diego International Jewish Film Festival

The Yiddish Book Center's first feature-length documentary Ver Vet Blaybn? (Who Will Remain?) will have its U.S. West Coast Premiere at the 32nd Annual San Diego International Jewish Film FestivalVer Vet Blaybn? follows one woman’s journey to understand her grandfather, the Yiddish writer Avrom Sutzkever.

The festivities include a variety of in-person and virtual screenings and events:

  • February 10-20: virtual access (limited to San Diego County)
  • Thursday, February 10, 10:30 AM PST — in-person screening at the Lawrence Family JCC (Jacobs Family Campus): tickets
  • February 11, 2 PM PST/5 PM EST — Film expert panel with Christa Whitney (live virtual event)
    • Join us in conversation with Christa Whitney, director of Who Will Remain? (Ver Vet Blaybn?), and local film experts Dr. Lawrence Baron and Beth Accomando (KPBS Arts Reporter and Cinema Junkie Podcast Host) for this exciting panel on the topic of film making and film criticism.
  • Monday, February 14, 10:30 AM PST — in-person screening at the Lawrence Family JCC (Jacobs Family Campus): tickets
  • Sunday, February 20, 12:30 PST/3:30 EST — A Celebration of Avrom Sutzkever's Yiddish Poetry (live virtual event)
    • Meet Dr. Miriam Trinh, a meyven of Avrom Sutzkever's poetry and Yiddish poetry in general, in conversation with Christa Whitney, Emily Felder, Hadas Kalderon, and Jana Mazurkiewicz Meisaroish. The discussion will explore Avrom Sutzkever’s poetry, his importance as a public figure and representative of Yiddish culture in Israel and around the world, and his lasting legacy in Yiddish and in translation.
