The Jewish Ghetto in Postcards
The Jewish Ghetto in Postcards, from the Blavatnik Archive Foundation, showcases original postcards that depict “the Jewish ghetto” in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. From the Eastern European shtetls, towns, and cities that Jewish immigrants escaped, fleeing persecution, to the refuge they found in the crowded streets of the Lower East Side of Manhattan, these postcards provide a nostalgic visual record of the “ghettos” that were once essential to the Jewish immigrant experience. The Jewish Ghetto in Postcards will be on view in the Brechner Gallery from October 22, 2017 through early spring 2018.
