How many participants are in the onsite program?
There will be between ten and fifteen students in each language class, for a total of approximately thirty participants.

How do I know which level to sign up for?
Detailed descriptions of each course level are available here. When you register, you will be asked questions about your language background, which we will review to ensure that you are in the right level.

What study materials do I need?
Students in the Unit 1 class will need a copy of In eynem: The New Yiddish TextbookTo purchase a copy, click here.

Will I have homework?
There is no mandatory homework, but optional assignments will be provided for students who want some extra practice with the material covered in class. Some time will be allotted during the week to work on homework.

Can I come for just a few days or just for the language classes each day?
YiddishSchool is designed for full-time participants who can commit to all of the activities, Sunday through Friday.

Where should I stay?
While accommodations aren't included, participants can get a group rate at the Hotel Northampton, a beautiful historic hotel in the center of downtown Northampton. The hotel is within walking distance of Northampton’s renowned local shops, galleries, bookstores, and coffeehouses. To reserve a room at the discounted rate of $155.99 per night plus tax , call the hotel at 413-584-3100 and ask for the "Yiddish Book Center" group rate.

What about meals?
Five lunches and two dinners are provided at the Yiddish Book Center. To explore restaurant options for other meals, go to Visit Hampshire County or ask our staff for recommendations.

What are my transportation options?
Directions to the Yiddish Book Center by car, plane, or public transit are available here. For participants who come without a car, one round-trip shuttle between the hotel and the Yiddish Book Center is available each day. The shuttle fee is $100 for the week, and reservations must be made in advance of the program. You can sign up for the shuttle when you register for the program. Taxi phone numbers will be available for those who have additional transportation needs.

Where will the classes, workshops, and performances take place?
All program activities will take place at the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Massachusetts.

What does YiddishSchool cost?
The cost is $875 for Yiddish Book Center members and $950 for nonmembers.

What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel by March 25 to receive a full refund, minus a $50 processing fee. If you cancel by April 1, you will receive a refund of 50 percent of your original payment. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a refund for cancellations after April 1.

What are the Yiddish Book Center's COVID-19 policies?
Participants must follow the Center's most current visitor guidelines while in the building.
