Only 2 percent of the 40,000 titles of modern Yiddish literature—and almost none of the countless stories and articles published in 3,000 Yiddish periodicals—have been translated into English. Making these works accessible to English readers has become one of our highest priorities, which is why we launched a multipronged translation initiative:
- We've published ten critically acclaimed translations of Yiddish novels, memoirs, plays, and journalism through our New Yiddish Library series at Yale University Press.
- Our Translation Fellowship Program is training and mentoring a new generation of Yiddish literary translators.
- We publish newly translated works in our magazine, Pakn Treger, including an annual digital translation anthology.
